PENNYRILE AREA TENNIS ASSOCIATION LEAGUES | About Our Adult & Senior Leagues All players participating in USTA League Tennis Programs agree to abide by the USTA Constitution, By-Laws, and Standing Orders, USTA Tournament Regulations and USTA League Tennis Regulations. Every local league must ahere to USTA Southern and State Regulations, use standards of good conduct, fair play and good sportsmanship as outlined in "THE CODE". Pennyrile Area Tennis Association, Pen Ten, has its own local rules, but the 2010 Kentucky, Southern and National USTA regulations supersede these rules. ADULT LEAGUE USTA League tennis is the country's largest recreational tennis league, helping more than 295,000 players nationwide get on the court, have a good time, and step up their game. In Hopkinsville, Adult League tennis is the heart of all leagues. The league format features two courts of singles and three courts of doubles. While other leagues have only doubles competition, it is the adult league that cater to both the young and restless to ageless wonders tennis players. Anyone can put together and captain a team. Teams consist of players aged 18. Any team that wins the best of five courts wins the overall match. Match scores are then put in a computer for local league standings. Each match is the best of three sets with a third set tiebreaker, if needed, to determine the winner. Hopkinsville's Adult League is played from March through May. For more information go to USTA League Tennis at www.kentuckytennis.com. TRI LEVEL LEAGUE Tri Level League is one of the fastest growing double games in the South. It allows three groups of double players to pair-up at different skilled levels and compete against another team of the same playing levels. In the Adult and Senior Tri Level Leagues there are various team categories, an example of these are: 2.5, 3.0, 3.5 levels and the 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5 levels. Example One: The 2.5 pair competes against another team's 2.5 players, the 3.0s against the opponent's 3.0 players, and 3.5 players against the other's 3.5s. On one court you will have the 2.5s playing, the second court 3.0s, and the third court 3.5s. The team that wins the best of three courts win the overall match. Each doubles play the best of three sets with a third set tiebreaker, if needed, to decide the match. Hopkinsville's Tri Level is played in the Spring and Summer. For more information go to USTA League Tennis at www.kentuckytennis.com. MIXED DOUBLES LEAGUE Fun and Exciting is the best way to describe Mixed Double Leagues in the Pennyrile Area. Pennyrile Area Tennis Association's Hot Summer Tournament is the area's largest sanctioned tournament for mixed doubles. In the past two years it has averaged more than 24 mixed double teams to the tournament. One of the reasons may be due to the increasing number of participants who play mixed doubles in local leagues. In league play each team match consists of three individual matches: three double courts. Each mixed couple (man and women) combined NTRP rating may not exceed the level entered. For first time participants, who do not have a rating, self ratings are administred upon team registration. Mixed doubles consists of the following combinations: 5.0, 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0, and 10. The 5.0 level is a straight 2.5 combination. Each doubles play the best of three sets with a third set tiebreaker, if needed, to decide the match. COMBO LEAGUE If you want to play tennis with a friend who is rated at a higher level than you, Combo League Doubles is for you. We like to call it - "Playing Tennis with the Big Boys" or girls as the case may be. With a minimum of six players on a team, players compete for the best of three courts. Playing levels offered will be combined 5.0, 5.5, 6.5, 7.5, 8.5, 9.5, and 10.5. Example: a girl rated 3.0 plays with her 3.5 friend on a 6.5 team. Each doubles play the best of three sets with a third set tiebreaker, if needed, to decide the match. Hopkinsville's Combo League Doubles is played in late Summer and early Fall. For more information go to USTA Leagues Tennis at www.kentuckytennis.com. SENIOR LEAGUES Never to Old for Tennis because tennis is "The Sport of a Lifetime". Each of the above leagues are broken out to have their own senior leagues. In addition, there is an individual senior league of its own, with three courts of doubles. It is available from March through May for Hopkinsville residents. So, put away that old cane and get out of that rocking chair, now's the time to get with a friend and play tennis with Seniors. Players aged 50 and above may participate in Hopkinsville's senior league, adult league or both. Each team must have a minimum of six players, they compete for the best of three courts. There is a team avaiable for each playing level. Each doubles play the best of three sets with a third set tiebreaker, if needed, to decide the match.
